In a bold and tightly coordinated military maneuver early Wednesday morning, Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor, a precision strike targeting terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The swift 25-minute operation, executed with air, naval, and ground-based assets, resulted in the elimination of more than 80 terrorists, military officials confirmed.

This marks India’s most expansive cross-border counter-terror operation since the 2019 Balakot airstrikes. Intelligence reports indicated that the targeted sites were active terror launch pads and training centers affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM)Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen — all of which have a long history of orchestrating attacks against Indian civilians and security forces, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir.

Targets and Impact

Strikes were carried out in key terror strongholds, including Bahawalpur (JeM’s known headquarters), Muridke (the base of LeT), and locations in PoK close to the Line of Control. Officials reported that between 25–30 terrorists were neutralized in the Bahawalpur and Muridke strikes alone. These areas have long been under international scrutiny for harboring militants despite repeated denials by the Pakistani establishment.

The operation came as a direct response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. That attack was widely condemned and believed to have been carried out by infiltrators trained in PoK.

Government's Statement and Strategic Context

A senior government official described the action as “measured and intelligence-driven,” emphasizing that the strikes were preemptive and focused solely on eliminating terrorist infrastructure, with minimal risk to civilians. The swift execution underlines India’s increasing reliance on precise, time-bound operations to tackle cross-border terrorism, rather than prolonged military escalations.

The move is expected to send a strong message to terrorist organizations and their backers in Pakistan, while also signaling to the international community India’s intent to protect its citizens and sovereignty without launching full-scale warfare.

India’s policy of “zero tolerance” toward terrorism, especially in the aftermath of the Pulwama and Uri attacks, has led to a doctrinal shift — one where surgical and precision strikes are used as tactical responses to specific provocations.

Global Reaction

As of now, there has been no official reaction from Pakistan, though tensions along the Line of Control have reportedly increased. India has briefed key allies and global institutions about the rationale and execution of the operation, reiterating its commitment to regional stability and counter-terrorism.
